Setting up a daily morning briefing or recurring repository check depends on which scheduler you open and where that tool executes your prompt. In Claude, recurring work spans three separate surfaces. Claude Cowork runs recurring workspace sessions (Claude Cowork Help[1]). Claude Code cloud scheduled tasks run repository jobs in Anthropic-managed cloud or self-hosted environments (Claude Code Web Docs[2]). Local machine options run through Claude Code Desktop local tasks (Claude Code Desktop Docs[6]) or session-scoped /loop timers (Claude Code Schedule Docs[7]).
ChatGPT splits scheduled automation between personal tasks managed in the Scheduled view (ChatGPT Help[3]) and shared team tasks that run under a workspace service account in ChatGPT Business and Enterprise (ChatGPT Team Tasks Help[4]). OpenAI also offers Codex automations inside Codex as a separate feature from ChatGPT Scheduled (ChatGPT Help[3]).
For teams that want one shared place to describe recurring jobs across text, images, video, and app delivery, a Kollab workspace provides scheduled workflows alongside a shared credit balance (Kollab Product[5], Kollab Pricing[8]). Start by comparing the seven schedulers in the table below, then use the four-step checklist to prepare a morning task.

How ChatGPT Scheduled Tasks Work on Personal and Team Plans
ChatGPT provides two scheduling paths based on whether a task belongs to an individual or a shared workspace. Personal tasks support one-time reminders, recurring prompts, monitoring tasks that track changes and stop on an end condition, and event-triggered runs on eligible plans (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]). You can set up a personal task by asking in chat or opening Scheduled on the web (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]). Delivery alerts support Push, Email, or both in Settings > Notifications, and mobile push requires creating the task in a supported mobile app (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]).
Your subscription tier sets the active limit and schedule precision for personal tasks. Free and Go plans allow 3 active tasks, Plus allows 5, Business and Edu allow 10, and Pro and Enterprise allow 15 (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]). Free accounts can schedule one-time runs or daily runs in flexible morning, afternoon, or night windows (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]). Eligible paid plans support hourly repeats and exact delivery times (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]). Eligible paid plans with Work support event triggers for Gmail messages, Slack channel messages, and GitHub pull-request activity. Add @ChatGPT to the Slack channel and authorize the GitHub repository. Event tasks share a cap of 30 runs per hour and 720 runs per day (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]). Personal tasks created inside a project cannot access that project's stored files. Tasks are unavailable in voice chats, GPTs, and locked chats (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]).
In ChatGPT Business and Enterprise workspaces, team tasks run in the cloud under the team service account (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). These runs proceed when ChatGPT is closed and your computer is asleep (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). Team tasks use the shared connections enabled by the team owner and do not inherit the creator's saved memories, Custom Instructions, or chat history (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). Each team task uses its own timezone and a model available to the team service account (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). Documented team use cases include a daily customer-change digest, a weekly project update to an approved Slack channel, a meeting agenda, and a recurring research brief (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]).
How Claude Scheduled Tasks Work Across Cowork and Claude Code
Anthropic separates Cowork scheduling, Claude Code cloud tasks, and local Claude Code scheduling. In Claude Cowork and the unified chat-and-Cowork experience, a scheduled task stores your prompt and executes each run as its own Cowork session on an hourly, daily, weekly, weekday, or manual cadence (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1]). Cowork scheduling is available on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. Tasks use connected tools, skills, and installed plugins. Published examples include Slack, email, or calendar briefings, weekly reports, and standup summaries (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1]). Cowork tasks run in the cloud by default while your computer sleeps. Tasks that need local files or local apps run on your computer (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1]).
For repository automation that runs with your laptop closed, Claude Code cloud scheduled tasks (formerly routines, currently in research preview) execute in Anthropic-managed cloud or a routed self-hosted environment (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). You can create a cloud task at claude.ai/code/routines, in the Desktop Code tab under Scheduled > Cloud, or through /schedule in the CLI (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). Each run clones the selected repositories. Triggers include a schedule, an API POST with a bearer token, or filtered GitHub events for pull requests, releases, and issues. A custom schedule uses five-field cron. It rejects intervals under one hour. Times use UTC unless CRON_TZ= is set (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). Connected MCP connectors such as Slack, Linear, and Google Drive are included by default and can write, so removing unneeded connectors during setup keeps permissions scoped (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). Runs count against your claude.ai subscription usage alongside hourly start caps of 100 scheduled runs per account. Run now, API fire, and re-arming a one-off task share a cap of 30 actions per hour per task (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). Earlier daily routine numbers from the April 14, 2026 launch post are historical and do not appear in current documentation (Introducing routines in Claude Code[11]).
When a job needs access to uncommitted local files, Claude Code provides two local tools. Claude Code Desktop local tasks require Desktop version 1.1.5368 or later. The app must remain open on an awake computer. A missed schedule gets one catch-up run for the latest missed slot within seven days (Desktop scheduled tasks[6]). Inside an open terminal session, /loop runs session-scoped reminders and recurring prompts down to a 1-minute interval for up to 50 tasks per session, stopping when the terminal closes (Run prompts on a schedule[7]).
How Scheduled Workflows Work in a Kollab Workspace
A Kollab workspace supports recurring multi-step workflows (Kollab Product[5]). Describe the job once, and Kollab plans the steps and selects models. The product page says it can deliver scheduled results to connected apps without a workflow builder or code (Kollab Product[5]).
The product page presents three examples with schedule labels (Kollab Product[5]):
Posts and short videos for X, Instagram, and TikTok, 3 times a day.
A 09:00 daily brief from Search Console, Google Ads, and Analytics, delivered to Slack.
An 08:00 daily workflow that turns a story into a script, visuals, video, and voiceover before publishing. The example does not name a destination network.
These are published examples, not measured delivery guarantees. Authorize each app before the workflow acts inside it (Kollab Product[5]). Confirm that the required connectors are available on your account.
Kollab Bot can deliver scheduled news or digests to a channel. Its FAQ names Slack and Telegram (Kollab Bot[10]). The public CLI page says CLI tasks run in the Kollab cloud (Kollab CLI[9]).
Every plan includes unlimited team seats. Each person signs in with their own account. Members share one workspace credit balance (Kollab Product[5], Kollab Pricing[8]). Messages, images, videos, and automated tasks use that balance. Heavier models and longer runs consume more credits (Kollab Pricing[8]).
The source pack records these prices and credits on 2026-10-28 (Kollab Product[5], Kollab Pricing[8]):
Free: 600 credits refresh every 3 days, up to 2,000 granted per month. Refresh credits do not roll over.
Pro: $20/month with 6,000 subscription credits per month. The page also lists $216 billed yearly.
Max: $200/month with 80,000 subscription credits per month. The page also lists $2,160 billed yearly.
How to Set Up a Daily Morning AI Task in 4 Steps
The four-step workflow below is an editorial setup checklist based on official product documentation. It has not been tested end to end.
- 1
Pick the scheduler that matches where the work lives
Open Scheduled on the ChatGPT web app for personal prompts (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]), or create a team task in a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise workspace for shared cloud ownership (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). Choose Claude Cowork Scheduled for connected workspace briefings (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1]). Use Claude Code cloud at
claude.ai/code/routinesor/schedulefor repository runs with your laptop closed (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). Use Claude Code Desktop local tasks if the job must read uncommitted local files on an awake machine (Desktop scheduled tasks[6]). Keep/loopfor temporary watches during an open terminal session (Run prompts on a schedule[7]). In a Kollab workspace, describe the recurring multi-step job directly in the workspace (Kollab Product[5]). - 2
Write a self-contained prompt and select a supported morning cadence
State the input sources, desired summary format, and destination channel in the prompt so each new session has full context (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1], Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). Match the schedule to your plan tier. ChatGPT Free supports at most one daily run in a flexible window. Eligible paid plans support an exact morning clock time (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3]). Claude Cowork manual setup offers Daily or Weekdays frequencies (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1]). Claude Code cloud accepts a daily five-field cron expression in UTC or with
CRON_TZ=(Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). Kollab's published morning brief example runs daily at 09:00 (Kollab Product[5]). - 3
Connect the required apps and verify local versus cloud dependencies
Set up Gmail, Slack, or GitHub under Settings > Apps for ChatGPT event triggers, or use team-enabled connections in ChatGPT Business and Enterprise (Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT[3], Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). Keep local folders and local apps out of a Claude Cowork task if you want it to run in the cloud while your laptop sleeps (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1]). Remove unneeded MCP connectors when creating a Claude Code cloud task so the job accesses the intended tools (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). In a Kollab workspace, authorize the required connectors such as Search Console, Google Ads, Analytics, and Slack before the schedule starts (Kollab Product[5]).
- 4
Run the task once and confirm delivery in the destination app
In ChatGPT team tasks, click Run now and inspect Previous runs (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). In Claude Cowork, run the task on demand from Scheduled (Schedule recurring tasks in Claude Cowork[1]). In Claude Code Desktop local tasks, click Run now once and review which tools can safely receive persistent approval. MCP tools marked
requiresUserInteractionstill prompt on every run (Desktop scheduled tasks[6]). In a Kollab workspace, check your target Slack or Telegram channel after the first scheduled run to verify the delivered brief (Kollab Product[5], Kollab Bot[10]).
What Can Pause or Block an Unattended Morning Run
Interactive permission prompts and expired logins can pause an unattended run before it finishes. In ChatGPT team tasks, an unattended cloud run cannot complete a new app sign-in, and approval rules in connected apps still apply (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). In Claude Code Desktop local tasks, Manual permission mode can stall an unattended run. MCP tools marked requiresUserInteraction prompt on every run (Desktop scheduled tasks[6]).
Account usage limits and model availability also affect scheduled execution. In Claude Code cloud, runs draw from your subscription usage window, and when that window is exhausted without metered overage credits, scheduled runs wait for the window to reset (Automate work with scheduled tasks[2]). In ChatGPT team tasks, if the selected model becomes unavailable to the team service account, the task pauses until a member selects another model and resumes it (Creating and managing team tasks in ChatGPT[4]). In a Kollab workspace, automated tasks draw from the shared workspace credit balance alongside messages, images, and videos, so keeping credits available in the workspace pool supports ongoing scheduled runs (Kollab Pricing[8]).
